Pay equity confounds
In New Zealand, as in many other parts of the world, women are paid less then men for work that is assessed as having similar skill requirements. While this is not well understood, organisations and agencies continue to research and redress elements of unjustifiable inequity at work.
A forum about young women in employment and leadership was held in Wellington in early March 2012 to explore what would make a positive difference to their work and career opportunities and their pathway to leadership. On a larger scale, a ruling by Fair Work Australia in early February rested on the findings of research on gender-based undervaluation of skills.
