Sustainable business is another way to create work and work environments that are good for staff, good for business and good for the planet. We congratulate Daisies Early Education and Care Centre, national award winners at this year's Sustainable Business Network Awards. Daisies walked away with the regional and then the national awards in the Emerging Small and Medium Business category on 8 November 2011. This category is for businesses that are new to sustainability that have actively begun implementing sustainable actions within the previous two years, and have fewer than 20 employees. A strong philosophy and clear vision for sustainability contributed to the judges' decision. They were also impressed that Daisies advocated for recycling with the Wellington City Council. Other stand-out features of their Centre are that staff are encouraged to use public transport through a reimbursed 10-trip ticket each month, and a rain water barrel which collects water from the roof. This provides water for “water play” but is also a learning resource to teach children that water is a precious resource that should not be wasted. |
