Improving dairy farm workplace productivity PDF Print E-mail

We have been working with Dairy New Zealand since mid-2009 on a project designed to help understand how good employment practice can contribute to improved productivity within the farming business. The project has involved different levels of on-farm intervention over a period of almost two years.

Heathrose has completed all baseline, ongoing and final evaluation data collection from participating farm managers and their staff, and is in the process of completing the final evaluation report (May 2012).

ITO Embedded Literacy and Numeracy Evaluation PDF Print E-mail

Heathrose recently completed the Formative Evaluation of the Industry Training Organisations’ Embedded Literacy and Numeracy Projects for the Department of Labour. The findings from the final evaluation were presented at the Industry Training Federation's Vocational Education and Training (VET) Conference in Wellington in April 2012.

The research project had three primary research questions:

  • What is the range of models and practices being used by ITOs for embedding language, literacy and numeracy skills training, and how easily are these models being translated in workplaces?
  • Are some models more effective than others, and what explains the differences?
  • How can the knowledge be transferred across industries and workplaces?

Women in Power PDF Print E-mail

As an offshoot of the above project, the ESITO Board decided to sponsor the recruitment of nine women into trade trainee roles in two electricity supply companies. The aim is to demonstrate the value of the contribution of women, to tackle gender stereotyping in the industry and to promote women as employees of choice in the industry.

A presentation at the Industry Training Federation Annual Conference 2011 provides a useful summary of the project - Women in Power: An industry collaboration (pdf, 3.3 MB)
